99% of the failures appear to me to be commercial parts. However there are very, very few know failures of any part from any manufacturer in late productions. Winchester parts have always been in demand due to their name, but 1) TRW 2) Springfield Armory 3) Winchester 4) Harrington and Richardson is the generally accepted pecking order. So the TRW name doesn't particularly add to their reputation IMO.īecause they produced the National Match rifles, TRW and Springfield Armory had a definite advantage in reputation. Harrington & Richardson (H&R) wasn't exactly the highest quality gun maker and their parts haven't been singled out as inferior. I have had the pleasure of owning parts from all four (4) USGI approved manufacturers.īetter quality steel and better QC goes a long way. Ive been really specifically into M14s for over 20 years.
